    FAR (Floor Area Ratio)

Ratio of total building floor area to plot area.

    Definition

FAR (also called FSI in India and plot ratio in the UK) expresses how much floor area a site is permitted to support relative to its land area. A FAR of 2.0 on a 1,000 sqm plot allows up to 2,000 sqm of gross floor area. It is the single most important constraint for early feasibility, controlling height, density, and yield together.
